This cliché of a thumbprint was used to represent the complexities inherent in corporate identity. But in this instance the cliché is converted into a metaphor. It is not an actual imprint of Alan Fletcher’s thumb but a copy, carefully drawn by him, line by line, in pencil – a matter of drawing one’s own identity. ‘A personal logo’.
